MET

One spot in a game that already exists

MET sells you a single place in a game of five-a-side that is already happening. That is the whole product. Everything below is what follows from it.

You shouldn't need thirteen friends and a group chat to play football on a Thursday.

People don't stop playing football because they stop wanting to play football. They stop because the person who organised it moved away, or got a job with Thursday evenings in it, and nobody else fancied taking over the group chat, the pitch booking and the chasing of eleven people for six pounds each.

A pitch is rented by the hour, which means somebody has to find thirteen other people before anybody plays. MET books the pitch instead and sells the spots in it one at a time. Turning up on your own is the ordinary way to use this site, not a favour anybody is doing you.

If the game doesn't fill, it doesn't go ahead and nothing is taken. That risk is ours to carry, and carrying it is most of what MET actually does.

How it works

  1. 1

    Find a game near you

The map shows what's on and how full it is. You can see who you'd be playing with before you pay anything.

  2. 2

Book a spot, not a pitch

One spot, or a few if you're bringing people. No team required, no deposit, and no becoming the person who organises it.

  3. 3

    Turn up and play

Sides get picked at the pitch. Afterwards somebody fills in the scoresheet, and if you're a member the whole game is there to watch back.

See what's on

Footage

Every pitch is recorded. You can watch back the games you were in — the full recording, not a highlights package somebody else cut. It sits on the match's own page, and it takes an account to open.

Your games

The monthly leaderboard

A calendar month, and a table of who did the most in it. Points come off the scoresheets — goals, assists, saves, games played and games won. Ask to be counted and every game you play from that day counts.

What MET doesn't do

  • Take your money

A spot is paid for at the venue's own reception when you get there, the way a pitch has always been paid for. MET holds the spot and tells you which pitch, what time and what it costs — no card details are asked for or taken anywhere on this site.

  • Rate you

Five things go in the monthly table: goals, assists, keeper saves, games and wins. There is no rating and no form. MET has no way to know whether your first touch was any good and isn't going to guess in public.

  • Hand your footage to anybody

Footage of a game belongs to the people who were in it. If you had a spot you can watch it; if you didn't, you can't — and that's checked on the file itself rather than on the page in front of it.

  • Ask you for a password

Signing in is a code to your email. A password here would be one somebody has also used somewhere that matters, and not holding them is cheaper than protecting them.
